Italy’s Locanda Quercia Calante in the heart of Umbria, is a beautiful converted farmhouse with ensuite accommodation for up to 26 people in twin shared rooms. Single occupancy is available for a supplement but places are limited. Rooms are tastefully furnished with views over the Italian garden and each with their own terrace.  The farmhouse was converted with an emphasis on sustainable architecture. It has its own water heating system and photovoltaic panels to generate electricity. The large and uniquely designed swimming pool with three levels is a pure spring water pool with a whirlpool at its centre. There are plenty of picturesque areas to relax, walk, read and sunbathe. Massage therapists are available onsite.

Light breakfast, lunch and evening meals are provided daily beginning with our welcome meal on Saturday evening and breakfast or a packed lunch is served on departure. Special diets can be catered for such as gluten free, vegan, lactose free etc. Many of the ingredients come from Quercia’s own organic garden or are locally sourced.  The meals are mainly vegetarian but fish is also served. The bar at Quercia is well stocked with wines and beer as well as home made elderflower fizz and juices.

On Sunday evening there is a short welcome yoga session before dinner. Monday to Friday, there are two yoga sessions from 8.30am to 12.30pm (8.30am to 10.30am yoga asana followed by a break before 11am to 12.30pm restorative and pranayama) The afternoons are free to fit in self-practice or optional excursions – a trip to Orvieto or any of the nearby historic towns or picturesque lakes. The yoga will be taught in the fully equipped studio at Quercia Calante. In addition, there will be two optional silent guided practice sessions during the week. All equipment, including mats is provided.  The classes are designed to be progressive so we start off gradually and build up our practice during the week, however, this is not a course recommended for beginners but for students who already have a regular yoga practice of at least 6 months.

Co-owners, Enrico and Laura offer a range of excellent massage treatments already road tested by us! They use their own blends of aromatherapy oils, made by Laura and both are skilled therapists offering both relaxing, gentle and deep tissue massages, Thai massage and other treatments.

Fly to Italy direct to Rome (Fiumicino is the best airport for transfers) or Perugia and then either hire a car or take a train from Rome Terni station or a bus from Perugia to Orvieto. Laura, Monica or Margarida at Locanda can then organise a taxi transfer from there which takes around 20 minutes and costs about €40. The car journey is very straight forward and well signposted and the trains and buses are extremely reasonable and comfortable. More information will be supplied on booking.
