Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training
The training in Iyengar Yoga for teachers is thorough, it is student-centered and once qualified, teachers have to maintain professional standards through contact with senior teachers, attending study days, regular classes and workshops so that students can benefit. Various levels of certification are attainable, but only through years of study and practice – to become a senior teacher for example takes a minimum of 15 years training so there are no fast-track options to become an Iyengar Yoga teacher! The Iyengar family in Pune, India have dedicated their lives to the study and practice of yoga to help others and instil good health and well being.
This quote from BKS Iyengar to his students, specifically those training to be teachers, says so much:
“Yoga is tough, and you need to train hard. It demands honesty, sustained application and above all, love in your heart. If you are interested to understand what it means to be a human being, placed between earth and sky, if you are interested in where you come from and where you will be able to go, if you want happiness and long for freedom, then you have already begun to take the first steps toward the journey within.” BKS Iyengar
Only fully qualified teachers in the Iyengar method who have been examined by the Iyengar Yoga Association can use the term Iyengar in their teaching qualifications and bear the Iyengar Certification Mark.
