THE FOOD
The food prepared for guests in Italy and Portugal is abundant, colourful, creative and delicious. We serve a vegetarian menu and special allergy diets can also be catered for. For meat and fish lovers, there are plenty of restaurants near and far offering a wide range of local and international dishes. The Italy retreats are fully catered where the Portugal retreats serve brunch after each morning session and dinner each evening apart from one. The food is lovingly prepared and the kitchens in Italy and Portugal are always open to requests and they will do their best to accommodate you where possible.

THE PEOPLE
We have been very lucky over the years, to have had guests from many countries attending the retreats, people from all walks of life, ages, yoga experience etc. Many come on their own seeking a new adventure or simply to recharge their batteries; some come with friends or partners and often the partners are non-yoga participants. Always the group of individual travellers arrive separately but part as friends and the atmosphere is one of conviviality.

THE FACILITIES
At all the venues we use, we take care to ensure that the accommodation is comfortable, clean and well appointed. All retreat centres have fully equipped yoga studios, ensuite bedrooms, relaxation areas, gardens and swimming pools. We also ensure first class onsite massage therapists to provide a wide range of treatments and healing sessions. All venues have a reception area where guests can obtain information on excursions, book taxis, get travel information etc.

Yoga Retreat Accommodation

Yoga Retreat Accommodation  in Portugal and Italy, has been specially chosen by Rachel for quality and comfort as well as location, good service and well equipped yoga studios. All three are uniquely different and it is difficult to choose a favourite among them.

PORTUGAL – QUINTA MIMOSA ALGARVE

The accommodation at Quinta Mimosa is arranged in 3 converted Portuguese farmhouses. There are 3 ensuite rooms in each house with lounge, fully equipped kitchen, terrace and barbeque area for each house. Also on site are 3 swimming pools all exclusively for the use of residential guests of Quinta Mimosa. The ensuite rooms can be shared between two, or for a supplement as single occupancy, unless otherwise specified. Also available is a dormitory area accommodating up to 4 people, in a mezzanine gallery integrated above the fully equipped yoga studio, or a separate twin room which shares the bathroom with the dormitory area.

PORTUGAL – MONTE NA LUZ ALGARVE

At Monte na Luz, there are single and double rooms arranged in small cottages and the main building with views overlooking the hills towards Loule and the Algarve coast. There is a weekly mini-bus service to the town and the beach is only 15 minutes drive away.  It’s a tranquil spot with no light pollution and great for bird and nature lovers.  Dutch owned and run, it is a comfortable and serene space with a warm welcome always offered by it’s team, Frank and Odille.

All the accommodation is decorated and furnished with love and there are plenty of places to sit & read, relax, swim, lounge, chat, meditate and enjoy!

ITALY – LOCANDA QUERCIA CALANTE

Locanda Quercia Calante is a renovated Italian farmhouse situated near the village of Castelo Giorgio, in the Umbrian region of Italy. There are 2 ensuite bedrooms in the farmhouse itself and then in the grounds there are individual rooms also with private bathroom, each with its own terrace and view of the gardens and pool. It is a popular retreat destination for yoga groups as it has two fully equipped studios, the food is wonderful and guests are well looked after by the staff at Quercia Calante. Full board is provided and the historic town of Orvieto is only 15 minutes drive away.

Quinta Mimosa Chocolate Cake

Quinta Mimosa Chocolate Cake – the Perfect Post Yoga Treat

One of our favourite brunch recipes from the Quinta Mimosa (Portugal) kitchen.  Thanks to Wendy for this GORGEOUS chocolate cake which contains NO WHEAT but ACRES OF CHOCOLATE and is best served with fresh fruit & crème fraîche or alternatively lashings of cream/ice cream/chocolate sauce – well, why not?  After an invigorating morning class of backbends, holiday guests were very appreciative of this healthy-ish treat.  Enjoy.

200 gms butter

1 cup sugar (white or brown or mixed)

400 gms dark chocolate

grated peel of 1 orange

half cup of coarsely chopped hazlenuts

2 tbsp finely ground hazlenuts (you can also use walnuts, almonds or chopped cherries or a combination)

6 eggs whisked together

Set over to 150°c.  Line a 12″ (approx) tin with greaseproof paper.

Melt butter, sugar and chocolate and stir in the orange.  Leave to cool for 5 mins.

Add chopped and ground nuts and eggs.  Whisk well.

Pour into tin and cook for 12 mins.  The cake will puff up high and the surface will crack.

To test if cooked (other than eating it), insert a sker and it should come out clean.

Eat and enjoy!
